Whats App launches Group video calling for Voice and Video

Whats App is now adding group video/voice calling to its iOS and Android app, the company announced it on Monday. Whats App already had this video calling feature since 2016, but calls were, until now, limited to two participants. With the latest change, the app is upping its support to four total participants.

Users now can make group calls to up to four people can hold face-to-face voice or video call, and then by tapping the ‘add participant’ button on the top right corner of the app can add another contact to the call.  As you might have hoped, these group video calls are encrypted with Whats App’s usual end-to-end encryption, ensuring that your communications are always secure.

In the midst of Facebook’s highly anticipated F8 developer conference, founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg took the stage to announce the latest updates to come from the social network’s universe. Not only did Zuckerberg share new features from the Facebook platform, but he also gave us glimpses into what we can expect from other companies that now exist under the Facebook umbrella, including Instagram and Whats App.

In a post on their blog Whats App said: “Over the last couple years, people have enjoyed making voice and video calls on Whats App.

“In fact, our users spend over 2 billion minutes on calls per day.

“We’re excited to announce that group calls for voice and video are coming to Whats App starting today.”

“Today, we’re launching a test to limit forwarding that will apply to everyone using Whats App. I

“In India – where people forward more messages, photos, and videos than any other country in the world – we’ll also test a lower limit of 5 chats at once and we’ll remove the quick forward button next to media messages.

“We believe that these changes – which we’ll continue to evaluate – will help keep WhatsApp the way it was designed to be: a private messaging app.

“We are deeply committed to your safety and privacy which is why Whats App is end-to-end encrypted, and we’ll continue to improve our app with features like this one.”

If we compare the WhatsApp group calling feature with other platforms, the range is surprising. While Facebook Messenger supports group video calls of up to 50 and Skype supports its half, i.e.., 25. Snapchat supports 16 and through Apple’s FaceTime you can connect to 32 people.
